Thanks to the glow from the fire pit and the brightness of the fresh flowers on the wooden tabletops, Cozy’s Cottage is the eclectic-chic restaurant Jan Collins envisioned.

“I started to notice a niche for chef-driven places,” says Collins, proud proprietor of Cozy’s Cottage and owner of three Putters Grills. “I asked myself, ‘Why don’t we have anything like that? I should do this.’”

Collins decided to purchase two side-by-side properties with a vision of lessons, parties, wine events and more. She wanted a place where adults could go to relax and chill.

Cozy’s Cottage is the start of that vision, and is open for dining, cooking classes and tastings.

“It’s just cozy,” says Collins, who has plans to open Cozy’s Café in the historical house on the second property.

For now, though, Cozy’s Cottage serves lunch and dinner with brunch on Sundays with Executive Chef Gary Henz at the wheel.

Featuring locally sourced food, like beef and produce, the menu changes on a regular basis, but some favorites include the lump crab cakes and the “to die for” Cozy’s Club.

Collins adds, “We are priced for fresh not frozen products.”

Customers also will find many local beverages available to go with their meal, like Hanover wines and Warped Wing beers, or they can try a mixed drink, such as the Shady Lady or Cozy Cooler.

Customers at Cozy’s have an all-access view of the kitchen, perfect for curious food-lovers or novice chefs. As an added bonus, a camera in the kitchen feeds to one of two TVs, allowing guests to see Henz preparing the delicious menu items, while the other TV plays cooking channels.

“Everything we do we take pride in,” says Collins.

During the warmer months, customers also can enjoy patio seating, a summer bar and a fireplace that is sometimes accompanied by acoustic performers.

Collins adds that Cozy’s does not take reservations, but that customers can call ahead to see about table openings since they are often busy.

“Word of mouth advertising is the best you can get and the word is out,” she says.
